A new body of work, responding to Slow the Flow’s SuDS & NFM Opportunities Mapping Report which identifies realistic locations where residents, businesses and organisations can contribute to flood alleviation. The land that comprises North Mytholmroyd has been notionally divied with natural boundaries, each of which has then been analysed in terms of which feasible interventions it would be possible to locate there. An estimate of how much water this would hold back from the valley at time of potential flooding was then arrived at for each of the areas.
The report has been produced by 2B Landscape Consultancy Ltd and Terrain Geotechnical Consultants with the support of partners including the SOURCE partnership, Environment Agency, Calderdale Council, and Yorkshire Water.
I have responded to this study by analysing the land within each outlined area of opportunity and making a series of ‘portraits’ of each area. with the aim of both celebrating and drawing attention to the importance of this land for the future of the valley. The paintings refer to the structure of the land itself, the map and terrain features of each area, water – either above or below ground, and the possible interventions that could be made there. You can see elements of all these components layered in the paintings.
The report can be found on the here.
