Salary: £32,000 p/a pro rota including benefits
Contract type: One year with the potential to become permanent and/or full time (subject to further funding)
Working pattern: Part-time, 0.4/ 2 days a week FTC flexible working hours are offered with the understanding that attendance at key meetings and events whose timing may be out of Slow The Flow’s control and/or out of normal office hours, may occasionally be required. Meetings are both in person and online.
Location: Remote working from your own suitable environment, with travel required within the Calder Valley.
Job summary
Slow The Flow is an award-winning charity that aims to educate the public about the benefits of environmentally conscious approaches to reducing flood risk. Over the past ten years we have inspired hundreds of people across the Calder Valley to volunteer their time, gardens and land to implement Natural Flood Management (NFM) solutions.
Thanks to the National Lottery Awards for All and Community Foundation For Calderdale, we are delighted to have secured the funding to hire our first member of staff who will deliver an exciting new project highlighting nature based solutions to flooding in the Calder Valley. This will include mapping a proposed trail highlighting water and nature, and implementation and oversight of several small Sustainable Urban Drainage Solutions (SuDS) projects like rainwater planters at stations across Calderdale. We are a friendly and dedicated group of volunteer trustees who are raring to help you get going!
Job description
As a project manager, you will be responsible for the following programme of work. As part of this, you will build strong and long-lasting relationships with a range of partner organisations, actively monitor and manage project performance and budgets, and report on progress and risks regularly to the trustees. This means that as well as being an experienced project manager, you will be a great communicator who can think creatively to continuously develop new ways for the organisation to grow.
- Plan and deliver the Calderdale Water and Nature Trail project, which will commemorate the natural and industrial water heritage of the Upper Calder Valley, including the 2015 Boxing Day Floods and celebrate the subsequent community response.
- Project manage the delivery of materials and goods and work with partners to implement small SuDS projects across Calderdale.
- Attendance at relevant Calderdale key stakeholder meetings both online and in-person.
- Organise volunteer days and family sessions with relevant local partners.
You will have our support to shape the role beyond the main programme of work, to help you develop and Slow The Flow to realise its ambitions.
Person specification
Your CV (up to two pages) and personal statement (up to 1000 words) should show us your passion for helping us deliver and explain how you meet the following essential criteria:
- Strong project management experience, with a track record of delivering multi-stakeholder community projects on time and within budget.
- Understanding and local knowledge of the Calder Valley region, its geography and ecological habitat.
- Ability to represent the organisation effectively in diverse settings, including stakeholder meetings, community events, schools, and local businesses.
- Ability to work with the trustee board to strengthen systems, processes, governance, and organisational development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills which can be used to engage with different audiences on and offline.
- Numeracy skills with experience devising and managing organisational and project budgets.
- Experience of working with volunteers delivering public events is also desirable.
