Download free lessons and resources for Key Stages 2 and 3.
Slow The Flow has developed a range of free teaching resources for both primary and secondary schools. Written by teachers and designed to fit within the KS2 and KS3 curriculum, with the intention of increasing the awareness of flooding, flood related issues and the use of Natural Flood Management as an option for mitigation against floods. We’d like to thank the Community Foundation for Calderdale for the support in enabling us to make these resources freely available to schools across Calderdale and nationally.
Key Stage 2
Key Stage 3
These lessons have been designed around a thinking skills approach to geography giving the students the opportunity to explore a range of issues that exist in the context of flooding in the Calder Valley in West Yorkshire. The lessons have been designed to be taught in a sequence and will fit into an existing unit of work on Rivers and Flooding at KS3, alternatively tasks and resources can be selected out and used on their own. A selection of assessment questions and levelled mark schemes have been included that can be used individually or incorporated into a schools own end of unit assessment.
Five lessons and resources covering the impacts of flooding, an introduction to natural flood management and sustainable urban drainage systems. Includes natural flood management handouts, photography and a natural flood management resource booklet.
