We have a range of volunteering opportunities. Although you don’t need any knowledge of rivers or land management, you will need to be fairly fit. Opportunities will exist during the week and at weekends so if you have a few hours to spare either weekly or monthly, we would love to hear from you.

  1. Construction of Plate Weirs and Leaky Dams –

Our next volunteer day is Sunday 12th November 2017 from 9.30am, to meet at the bottom car park at Hardcastle Crags.

Please contact secretary@slowtheflow.net to book your place and to help us manage numbers of volunteers.

We will also be requiring lots of volunteers on the following dates; 18th November, 10th December and 16th December.

Dates for 2018 will be published soon.

Volunteers to build plate weirs and leaky dams throughout the catchment. Training will be given and you will need to be able to walk some distance between sites. The construction of these Plate Weirs and Leaky Dams are dependent on funding from various sources so work on these is not expected to start yet, but please let us know and we will add you to our volunteer database and be in touch with you when funding is secured.

2. River Surveyors – We need volunteers to carry out simple surveys of each river in the catchment to collate data on width, depth and river bed type. We will supply the equipment. All you will need are a pair of wellies and the ability to walk some distance. This information is imperative in helping us to understand the river network and how and where the various alleviation schemes will work.

3. Landowners and Land Managers – Do you own or manage land in the upper catchment and would you like to know more about what you can do to ‘Slowtheflow’, please get in touch to have a chat about how you can help.

We are staffed by volunteers who work during the day so please bear with us if we do not respond straightaway.
